Coronavirus - COVID-19 Update 2021

Following the World Health Organisation’s declaration of the Coronavirus Pandemic in 2020, we produced 4 information videos to assist seafarers dealing with this unprecedented situation. The primary objective was to describe the virus, how it spreads and what precautions seafarers should take to avoid infection. We also described how the situation affected crew change and the physical and mental resilience of seafarers.
Now, new mutations of the virus are emerging. This means that extra precautions are being taken by National Governments the world over, resulting in more stringent requirements for both personnel and ships, and further affecting the work and lives of seafarers.

In this programme “Covid-19 Update” we discuss the effects of the significant changes imposed by Flag States, Labour Supply Countries, Port States and Port Authorities, and issues such as:

  • how to maintain mental resilience;
  • how to deal with COVID-19 on board and stay safe;
  • how seafarers are affected during crew change;
  • how the distribution of vaccines may change the situation.

This film was produced by Marine Media Enterprises with the support and assistance of Columbia Ship Management, Anglo Eastern Ship Management, Singapore Shipping Association, Ulusoy Sealines, Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement and Maritime Training Centre, Sea World Management and Trading Inc, The International Chamber of Shipping, InterManager, The Nautical Institute and Steamship Mutual.
