Steamship Mutual Management

The Club's management succession plan, which was announced last April begins to take effect at the start of the new policy year. We welcome Jonathan Andrews as Chief Executive and Graham Jones as our Managing Director*.

We are also pleased to announce that Sue Watkins, currently a Director, will join the Management Team. Sue will be Head of Claims for the Eastern Syndicate, and is our ESG and Sustainability Director.

Peter Hulyer joins the Management Team as Chief Commercial Officer. Originally based in Singapore, Peter relocated to London on 16 March. 

After six years as CEO for the Hong Kong Branch, and 23 years working in our Hong Kong office, we look forward to seeing Rohan Bray returning to London and joining the Management Team as Head of the Eastern Syndicate. 

In addition to these changes, other Managers will be moving roles within the Club.

Adrian Benham will become Head of Claims for the Club.

Malcolm Shelmerdine will move to be Head of the European Syndicate.

Also, Captain John Taylor will head up the Loss Prevention Department taking over from Chris Adams. 

Steamship Mutual Senior Management Team

Chief Executive Succession 

Jonathan will take over as Chief Executive, from Stephen Martin. He joined Steamship Mutual in 1988 as a claims executive then transferred to the underwriting department in 1990.  Jonathan has more recently been the Head of the Club's Eastern Syndicate and Head of Underwriting for the area. Jonathan is very active within the International Group and serves on various of its sub-committees.  

 

Our New Managing Director 

Graham qualified as a Solicitor in 1999, and joined Steamship’s legal department in July 2012,  having previously worked at a leading London law firm. He became Steamship's Legal Director in 2016 and the Data Protection Officer in 2018. He has been involved in a number Steamship's developments in recent years including the opening of offices in Asia and a new insurance company in Cyprus. He is also heavily involved in the governance aspects of the Club and the Club's policies to prevent financial crime. 

Chief Commercial Office - A new appointment

A new appointment and role at the Club, is Chief Commercial Officer. As previously mentioned, we welcome Peter Hulyer in this position, joining Steamship from Aon where he was Head of Marine and latterly their Transportation and Logistics Leader and Industry Specialities for the Asia Pacific region.  Peter is currently based in Singapore, but will be relocating to London.
