Use of Satellite Communication Equipment – India

The Directorate General of Shipping (DGS) has published DGS Order No. 02 of 2026, which contains requirements for the use of satellite communication equipment by ships and seafarers operating in Indian coastal waters.
Members with vessels trading to India should ensure they are familiar with the requirements of the Order and review their onboard satellite communication equipment and procedures before arrival.
Members trading to India should read and comply with the requirements of DGS Order No. 02 of 2026 – Usage of Satellite Communication Equipment in Indian Coastal Waters by Ships and Seafarers, including the provisions relating to equipment covered, applicable requirements and any exemptions.
Where further guidance is required, Members should consult their local agents, legal advisers or the Club’s correspondents regarding local requirements and operational considerations.
