The United States Coast Guard (USCG) has published its Port State Control (PSC) Annual Report 2025, providing an overview of Port State Control activities, inspection trends, detention statistics and compliance issues identified on foreign flagged vessels calling at U.S. ports.
The report highlights recurring deficiencies relating to fire safety, lifesaving equipment, safety management systems (ISM), ship certification and pollution prevention. Particular attention is drawn to the effective implementation of onboard procedures, equipment maintenance and crew familiarity with emergency and operational requirements.
Members may wish to review the findings and consider whether any lessons learned can be incorporated into their safety management systems, maintenance programmes, crew training and onboard procedures to help reduce the risk of deficiencies and detentions during Port State Control inspections.
