The Places of Refuge Seminar, organised jointly by the Institute of Maritime Law and the BMLA, took place at Clyde & Co's London offices on 30 March 2004.

The seminar provided an insight into the current legal issues at stake in the developing law of Places of Refuge, a development that has come increasingly under the spotlight in recent years since the Prestige incident. The seminar was chaired by Sir Anthony Evans, followed by an introduction from the Institute's Richard Shaw. Mike Lacey, from the International Salvage Union provided the salvor's perspective and the UK SOSREP*, Robin Middleton, provided the Government's perspective.

The text of the presentations given has been made available by the Institute of Maritime Law.
