Notice on Collision Risks with Fishing Vessels in Coastal Waters - China

Members’ attention is drawn to the Huatai Circular [2026] 03, which summarises and interprets the Notice on Strengthening the Prevention of Collisions between Merchant Ships and Fishing Vessels in Coastal Waters of China issued by the China Maritime Safety Administration.

The Notice highlights increased collision risks during the spring fishing season and sets out enhanced expectations for navigation, watchkeeping, collision avoidance and emergency response in Chinese coastal waters.

Members are advised to review the Circular and ensure the relevant guidance is brought to the attention of Masters and shore staff.
