Members are advised that Iranian authorities have issued a NAVAREA warning regarding live firing naval exercises scheduled from 1 to 2 February 2026, between 0230 – 2030 UTC. The declared exercise zone is significantly expanded this year and now intersects the Strait of Hormuz Traffic Separation Scheme (TSS), creating a navigational risk for vessels transiting the area. Although such exercises are periodically conducted, however, current regional situation heighten the level of caution required.
Masters and Bridge Teams should exercise heightened vigilance, maintain a continuous lookout, keep a dedicated VHF watch on Channel 16, monitor relevant local radio frequencies and comply with all instructions issued by regional maritime authorities and naval units.
Voyage plans should be carefully reviewed and adjusted to avoid the restricted area wherever practicable. All vessels approaching or operating near the designated coordinates must treat this notice as high priority and ensure crews are fully briefed.
Inbound vessels should anticipate delays during the daily 18 hour firing windows and may wish to time their arrival at the Strait to avoid restricted periods. Additionally, given the presence of international naval task forces in the area, vessels should keep AIS fully operational and comply with instructions issued by legitimate maritime authorities. In cases where any instructions appear to conflict with international rules, vessels should seek guidance from their Flag Administration.
If naval forces approach the vessel, the Master should provide the ship’s name, IMO number, flag, last port of call, next port of call and cargo details if requested, while confirming the vessel’s right to navigate under international law. If boarding is attempted, the Master and crew should not resist and must cooperate fully to avoid unintended incident.
For any updates, members are advised to obtain information and guidance from the local agent or the Club correspondent, who will be able to provide the most current information available locally.
