Malaysia: Marine Sensitive Area Notice

The Government of Malaysia has issued the Marine Sensitive Area Notice MSA 01/2026, effective 11th September 2026, introducing navigational and environmental protection measures within the designated area. These include restrictions relating to anchoring, vessel size and speed, together with controls on cargo transfers, bunkering and activities affecting the seabed.

Members operating in or near the area should review the Notice and its Appendix carefully and ensure compliance with all applicable requirements. Failure to comply constitutes an offence under the Exclusive Economic Zone Regulations 2026.

Where further guidance is required, Members should consult their local agents, legal advisers or the Club’s correspondents regarding local requirements and operational considerations.
