Türkiye has been actively working to strengthen its environmental regulations by regulating pollution in its waters. As part of its efforts to align with international standards, Türkiye has implemented measures that impose fines for environmental violations, including pollution. The fines and regulations regarding marine pollution are mainly outlined under the Türkiye Environmental Code dated 1983, numbered 2872.

Thanks to our correspondents Kalimbassieris Maritime in Türkiye, the Club would like to bring to the attention of Members updates on the fines imposed on vessels in Turkish waters. The pollution fines for 2025 will increase by 43.93%, based on the inflation adjustment rate announced by the Directorate of Revenue Administration on 27 November 2024. This adjustment will take effect from 1 January 2025, raising the fines compared to the levels applied in 2024.

The fines vary depending on the severity of the violation and the size of the vessel or company responsible. To mitigate against such fines, it is crucial that Members are well-informed and prepared by considering the recommendations and guidelines as included within the Kalimbassieris Maritime Circular.

Members are advised to seek the most up-to-date information details through their local agents or the Club’s Correspondents.
