ReCAAP's 23-30 September report on Piracy & Robbery in SOMS (Straits of Malacca and Singapore) highlights the continual need for enhanced vigilance when transiting the area. With the recent incident in Singapore Straits on 30th Sep 2025, a total of 97 incidents have been reported in SOMS since January 2025.
The Club would like to remind Members’ of IMB Advisories 085/25 and 087/25 on Singapore Straits, where Indonesian Marine Police (IMP) advise of patrol boats patrolling the piracy hot spot areas and their availability to assist vessels.

IMP recommends that vessels maintain strict anti-piracy watches along Singapore Straits, especially at night, and immediately report all suspicious sightings and incidents to local authorities and to the IMB piracy reporting centre.
Vessels are recommended to notify incident location via VHF CH16 which is monitored by IMP and who have expressed their commitment to keeping Singapore straits safe. IMP reiterate the need for cooperation and the need for ship reports, including CCTV footage/photos, to assist in ensuring that criminals are brought to justice, with 2 gangs recently arrested at sea/ashore.
The Club would remind Members of The Best Management Practice Guidelines (BMP), the Club video Piracy – Menace of the Seas and other useful resources that are available on the Club Piracy page. In consideration of the physical and mental well-being of seafarers, Members should be mindful of the Club partnership with Mental Health Support Solutions (MHSS), and how seafarers on Members’ entered vessels can access a free 24/7 confidential helpline, and the support of professional psychologists, trained in the challenges of the maritime industry.
