Club correspondents Proinde have produced a circular with an update on the outbreak of yellow fever currently being experienced in Brazil. The circular outlines the regions where the disease is currently most prevalent and has information about symptoms. Proinde say “Vaccination against yellow fever is safe, affordable and abundantly available. It produces effect after ten days of administration and a single dose provides lifelong protection. It is, in fact, the only effective means of personal protection against the infection”. At present, only visitors to Brazil from Angola and the Democratic Republic of Congo require proof of vaccination, but Proinde recommend that all seafarers on board vessels calling at Brazilian ports be vaccinated and issued with certificates in conformity with WHO standards.
Read the full circular here and see the Proinde website.
We also draw Members attention to the Club’s recent article about yellow fever. In January 2018 we published an article outlining the new inspection regime in China for vessels and people. These requirements are also mentioned in the Proinde 14/3/18 circular.
