Club correspondents Proinde have informed us that an oily substance in the form of lumps of black tar has been found on an extensive area of Brazil’s North Eastern coast.

The Brazilian Navy’s Integrated Maritime Safety Centre is investigating maritime traffic in the area, with an emphasis on oil tankers. Proinde recommend that sightings of oil slicks during navigation, of whilst moored alongside or at anchor are reported to the authorities.

Further details, including a map, can be found in Proinde’s Circular .

Please see further update provided by  Brazil P&I  and in the attached which shows the areas affected by the oil spill.
