With thanks to the ICC’s International Maritime Board the Club would like to draw Member attention to their recently released half yearly report on maritime piracy incidents.

“A total of 60 incidents reported to the IMB Piracy reporting Centre in H1 2024. These are broken down as 46 vessels boarded, eight attempted attacks, two vessels hijacked and two fired upon. Violence against and the threat to crews continues with 85 crew taken hostage, 11 crew kidnapped and two threatened.”

The full details and accompanying press release can be found in the links below.

The Managers wish to take this opportunity to remind Members of the importance of remaining vigilant to the threat of piracy when operating and passing through these and other recognised areas of piracy activity, and the need to follow Best Management Practice as detailed in BMP5 and other industry guidance.

The Loss Prevention team has a site “Piracy - Security” which provides Members with links and details on guidance and information on  this important subject.
