The IMO Resolution MSC.539 (107) Amendments to the International Maritime Solid Bulk Cargoes (IMSBC) Code, amendment 07-23 introduces DRI (D) as the fourth DRI schedule, which becomes mandatory part of the IMSBC Code from January 2025.

Direct Reduced Iron (D), a by-product of the manufacturing and handling process of DRI (A) and DRI (B) is similar to DRI (C) but has a higher moisture content ≥ 2% as compared to ≤0.3% for DRI (C).

The Club would like to bring to members’ attention the latest Circular on DRI (D) (By-product fines with a moisture content of at least 2%) summarising the main points of DRI (D) along with additional guidance and explanatory notes. It should be noted that this Circular is for guidance only and the relevant entries from the IMSBC Code remain the primary source of carriage requirements which should be relied upon.

This Circular has been prepared by International Group of P&I Clubs (IG) in conjunction with Dr J H Burgoyne & partners LLP (Burgoynes) with input from INTERCARGO.
