At the most recent seminar in the 2017Command Series held at Trinity House in London, The Nautical Institute launched its latest book, 'Guidelines for Collecting Maritime Evidence'. This latest text is a complete revision of the popular Nautical Institute publication, 'The Mariner's Role in Collecting Evidence' and is intended for everyone on-shore or at sea - Master, crew and managers who might need to handle material after a maritime incident. It removes much of the uncertainty from the task and will hopefully reduce the risk of seafarer criminalisation.
Steamship Mutual's Head of Loss Prevention Chris Adams, a contributing author, said about the book
"From the Club's perspective, evidence gathered at the earliest opportunity after a casualty greatly facilitates the successful outcome of a case. Steamship Mutual is grateful for the opportunity to have participated in the production of this book which will serve as a useful point of reference for all involved in handling P&I claims. ..."
At the book's launch, The Nautical Institute's President Captain Duke Snider, said:
"We all hope that we are not faced with a casualty, but I doubt if there is a shipping professional who has managed to go through their entire service without being involved in form of accident and that this book should be required reading for all officers"
