IMPORTANT – GNSS Interference
The Joint Maritime Information Centre JMIC has recently released the attached warning in response to the increasing instances of GNSS interference within both the Strait of Hormuz and the Red Sea area.
JMIC highly encourages all vessels transiting the Red Sea and Strait of Hormuz to continue vigilant watch standing to include recognizing GNSS interference. It is also recommended not to rely entirely on electronic navigation methods or autopilot when transiting through areas prone to GNSS interference and it would be prudent for mariners to consider using traditional non electronic means of position fixing to crosscheck the vessels position when in coastal or congested waters.
