Oil Boom Type Height above waterline Depth below waterline A 20 ~ 30cm 30 ~ 40cm B 30 ~ 60cm 40 ~ 90cm C over 60cm over 90cmX = quantity of dispersent in kilolitres.
Y = quantity of sorbent in tonnes.
Z = quantity of oil gel in kilolitres.

N.B.
When calculating the quantity of dispersent, sorbent and oil gel required by a particular vessel, it is impossible to rely simply on the equations provided, e. g. 20X + 50Y + 15Z = U as they contain three variables.
The Korean Marine Police suggest that the regulations can be satisfied by assuming that the equations signify alternatives rather than additions, i.e. in the abovementioned case, the vessel can satisfy the regulations by using 20X = U or 50Y = U or 15Z = U.
The KMPRC suggest that the "Z" value can be completely ignored and that the vessel should carry equal quantities of dispersents and sorbents, i. e. in the abovementioned case 70(X + Y) = U and thus X = U/35 and Y = U/35.
