With effect from 18 February age restrictions apply for tankers entering Israeli waters.
After this date, all tankers of 20 years and above (in the Gulf of Eilat) and of 25 years or more (in the Mediterranean) and which carry 'persistent oils' will not be permitted to enter Israeli territorial waters. The announcement was made in a notice issued by Israel's Ministry of Transport Administration of Shipping and Ports.
It is also understood that Israeli refineries have also adopted the above regulations with regard to vessels carrying refined or "white" products.
