OFAC Targets Networks Linked To Iran
US TREASURY TARGETS NETWORKS LINKED TO IRAN – 29 AUGUST 2014
OFAC has announced a number of actions targeting a diverse set of entities and individuals under various Iran-related authorities, including those connected to Iran’s missile and nuclear programs, sanctions evasion efforts, and support for terrorism.
Many of the new designations for asset freeze include entities and individuals related to Iran’s energy and shipping industries. An associated press release emphasises OFAC’s determination to crack down on Iranian individuals and entities involved in targeted activities and sectors, and those non-Iranians who violate US sanctions or who assist Iran to violate US sanctions. As a result of these designations, US persons are prohibited from engaging in transactions with the newly-identified targets. The US may also impose sanctions on non-US persons who facilitate transactions on their behalf.
