Situation in the Black Sea Region

This page is intended to provide Members with updates, details and links to the latest alerts and advisories available from the Club and other sources of intelligence.

Security Update

The security environment in the Black Sea remains volatile, with ongoing Russian and Ukrainian military activity continuing to affect ports, maritime infrastructure and commercial shipping. Recent reporting indicates a series of drone attacks against port facilities and maritime assets on both sides of the Black Sea, with areas including Odesa and Novorossiysk experiencing repeated incidents in recent weeks. These attacks have resulted in damage to port infrastructure, military assets and merchant vessels operating in the vicinity of targeted facilities.

Commercial shipping operating in or near affected areas may be exposed to direct attack, collateral damage, port disruption and delays arising from military operations. The security situation remains dynamic, and risks can change rapidly with little warning.

Members considering Black Sea calls should undertake voyage-specific threat assessments, maintain close liaison with local agents and security advisers, monitor relevant navigational and military warnings, and ensure appropriate contingency arrangements are in place for potential disruption to port operations or vessel movements.
