Partnership with MHSS
Seafarers are critical to maintaining the flow of world trade and their well-being is an issue of paramount importance.
Loss Prevention
Background
The COVID-19 pandemic, and the operational disruption it caused to the process of scheduled crew changes, subjected seafarers to increased levels of stress and anxiety. In response to this, Steamship Mutual provided a very significant additional service to the Club’s Members, directly targeting the mental well-being of ships’ crews by partnering with Mental Health Support Solutions (MHSS), www.mentalhealth-support.com. This partnership afforded seafarers on Members’ entered vessels FREE access to confidential and professional psychological support.
Recognising that these challenges extend well beyond the pandemic, the Club maintains this partnership as a permanent service, acknowledging the continued pressures on those working at sea and ashore.
Why mental support matters today and how the service works.
The maritime industry is moving forward rapidly, with complex operational demands, increased regulatory requirements, digitalisation, a harsh and demanding environment, geo-politics, long periods away from families and loved ones – all contributing to a high-stress environment. In this context, timely and professional mental health support is essential. The MHSS service ensures that seafarers and shore staff can access help when they need it most, be that because of personal challenges, work-related stress or psychological crises.
