Attention for Vessels trading between Europe and North America/Canada

The Club has become aware of a number of occurrences in recent months where stowaways have boarded Member vessels in European ports, with the clear intention of trying to reach Canada. This suggests a potential new trend of immigrants already in Europe attempting to cross the Atlantic, presenting a risk that Members with vessels loading in Europe and bound for Canada should consider very seriously by taking all appropriate measures to prevent stowaways boarding their vessels.

Club Guidance

Over the years, Steamship has published many articles warning of the potential of stowaways boarding Member vessels, which can subsequently result in significant costs for the stowaway disembarkation at an appropriate port. Members are reminded of a number of articles and risk alerts issued by the Club that provide guidance and information on both the prevention of stowaways boarding and the challenges faced in their repatriation, and should contact the Club if they have any questions or concerns in this regard.
