IMO Maritime Safety Committee Circulars of June 2009

At its 86th session from 27 May to 5 June 2009 IMO's Maritime Safety Committee approved three circulars relating to guidance and best practice for dealing with piracy and armed robbery against ships. These circulars, MSC.1/Circ.1332, MSC.1/Circ.1333 and MSC.1/Circ.1334 can be viewed and downloaded below. Circular 1332 also confirms that nothing in the recent best management practice and guidance should be read as contradicting the Code of Practice set out in resolution 922 of the 22nd General Assembly (A.22/Res.922) which is also available to view and download below for ease of reference.

  

January 2011 Update

An MSC resolution at its 88th session (24 November to 3 December 2010) adopted further guidance on this issue: Guidance for company security officers on preparation of a company and crew for the contingency of hijack by pirates in the Western Indian Ocean and the Gulf of Aden is also available to view and download below.
